Birchbox has been consistent with the special monthly curated boxes. I love the option of a curated box, picking a sample, or leaving it up to chance. There’s really an option for everybody. I purchased two October boxes, one with a picked sample and the second was the monthly curated box.
n case you aren’t familiar, Birchbox is a monthly women’s beauty subscription service. Each month they stuff a box full of 4-6 sample size beauty and lifestyle products for only 10 dollars! If you like what was in your box, you have the opportunity to review all of your products for points towards full size items in the Birchbox Shop. Each item reviewed lots you 10 points, when you hit 100, that’s 10 dollars in the Birchbox store! At an average of 5 products per box, that’s 10 dollars every 2 months toward full size products.
Birchbox recently launched a new element to their subscription called Pick-Your-Sample which allows subscribers to select one of 3-4 preselected samples to go into their boxes. On top of the preselected samples, you have the option to select a specially one time curated box. It’s really the best of both worlds. If you like surprises, you don’t have to pick. If you hate surprises and want to know everything in your box, get the specially curated box! Here are this month’s selections:
And of course, we also have our October Birchbox Plus items. Birchbox Plus is a way for you to get “a little more” out of your Birchbox every month. Each month, Birchbox releases one or more items at a discount that will ship free with your box. This month, they also offered double points when you bought 2 items. They sold out in under an hour, but incase you are curious, this is what they offered for Birchbox Plus this month:
Moving on to the box!
Birchbox generally ships by the 10th of each month and can take up to 10 days to arrive. I’ve noticed ordering a Birchbox Plus item can delay your shipping until about the 15th. Birchbox ships in waves and each box number is shipped in batches.
As I already mentioned, this review is for the monthly curated box. This month’s special box was put together for the new movie Laggies. Never heard of the movie, but the box seemed interesting enough.
First look, I knew what to expect, but I honestly forget every item that would come in this box. It’s nice to see decent size samples, that’s for sure.
Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle: Full Size, 21.98. Sample Size, 5.50.
I love this product. I’ve sampled it previously and I’ve already bought a full size. This one will be nice for travel. It smells like the other Beauty Protector products and offers plenty of benefits like locking in color, protecting from heat damage, and adding silkiness.
Vasanti BrightenUp!: Full Size, 34. Sample Size, 5.60.
I love this face scrub. C sampled this in his Birchbox awhile back and I actually took it from him. The scrub particles are super fine, so it’s really gentle if you have sensitive skin.
Sage + Fasten Eau de Parfum in Onward: Full Size, 50. Sample Size, 2.
This is a really sweet, sort of citrusy scent. I like it, but it does reek of green apples and other sweet stuff, so I’m not always in the mood for it. The sample is a rollerball but the full size is a spray, I’d probably never buy the full size for that reason alone. With a sent so strong, I’d much rather have a roller!
ModelCo Power Lash Mascara: Full Size, 20. Sample Size, 10.
The first time I tried this mascara, I didn’t care for it. I found it super dry and clumpy. Perhaps I just need to add a few drops of baby oil to it and it will work better. I’ll give it one more try before writing it off.
TOCCA Crema da Mano in Bianca: Full Size, 20. Sample Size, 5.
I’ve heard rave reviews of this hand cream before. I think this was the product that made me want to get this box. I understand the raves, it smells nice, super thick, but not overly greasy.
Overall, the October Birchbox Laggies box had a total value of 28.10. Not a bad value at all! Besides the mascara, the rest of the products are great.
