I’ll admit, I was worried for a quick second. Birchbox changed their shipping page and BOTH of my boxes weren’t due for well over a week from today. It just shouldn’t take two weeks to take a trip from TN to MI. Luckily, they both randomly appeared today, which is perfect timing. I’ve been feeling pretty sick, so it was nice to have a little treat.
In case you aren’t familiar, Birchbox is a monthly women’s beauty subscription service. Each month they stuff a box full of 4-6 sample size beauty and lifestyle products for only 10 dollars! If you like what was in your box, you have the opportunity to review all of your products for points towards full size items in the Birchbox Shop. Each item reviewed lots you 10 points, when you hit 100, that’s 10 dollars in the Birchbox store! At an average of 5 products per box, that’s 10 dollars every 2 months toward full size products.
Birchbox recently launched a new element to their subscription called Pick-Your-Sample which allows subscribers to select one of 3-4 preselected samples to go into their boxes. On top of the preselected samples, you have the option to select a specially one time curated box. It’s really the best of both worlds. If you like surprises, you don’t have to pick. If you hate surprises and want to know everything in your box, get the specially curated box! Here are this month’s selections:
On top of being able to select a sample, Birchbox also offers Birchbox Plus. This is a program that allows you to get more from your monthly Birchbox. Each month they feature one or more different products at a discounted price, if you choose a Birchbox Plus item, it will ship free WITH your Birchbox. This month, the Birchbox Plus items are:
Birchbox ships via Newgistics which uses USPS and UPS to deliver packages. Generally my box gets to me in 4-5 days but it can take up to 10.
The inside box has a sleeve that screams BuzzFeed. I think I mentioned this already, but this review is for the BuzzFeed Life Happy Holidays Hack Birchbox. Phew, it has a long name!
When you select a curated monthly box over the normal Birchbox, the monthly theme or anything else Birchbox is doing that month won’t apply to your box. It’s a totally unique and separate box. This includes the info card, it still states the products with their full size value, but was specially written for this box.
First look! When you select a curated box, you can see what will be inside right away, but I didn’t really look. I have two accounts so I always try to get 1 curated box and 1 pick a sample box. Notice the BuzzFeed sticker that says “perf?” Bonus points to the commenter that can tell me what to do with this sticker.
Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo: Full Size, 9. Sample Size, 6.75.
It’s unreal how much dry shampoo I have. I don’t use regular shampoo more than once a month, so it would be a stretch for me to use dry shampoo. I use it on occasion after working out or something. I’ve heard good things about this brand, and if nothing else, I hope to use it to refresh my hair midday.
Dr. Jart+ Pore Minimalist Mask: Full Size, 35. Sample Size, 5.
I think I’ve gotten one of these in a previous box. It’s a nice sheet mask that helps to minimize the appearance of pores. It seemed to clear up my skin a bit after using it.
Dr. Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips: Full Size, 14.50. Sample Size, 2.90.
This is a tiny tube but a little goes a long way. I highly recommend everyone keep a tube of this around for the winter. It’s made of Lanolin. It’s super moisturizing and amazing on your skin. I use it on my hands when I have eczema break outs.
Greenleaf Signature Candle in Silver Spruce: Full Size, 17. Sample Size, 2.
This candle smells exactly like a Christmas tree and is perfect for the holiday season. I’m trying to convince C to let us get a fake tree this year (allergies), and I swear I could lit this candle and put it next to the fake tree and no one would be able to tell the difference.
Mirenesse iCurl Secret Weapon 24hr Mascara: Full Size, 35.96. Sample Size, 10.27.
Holy crap, this mascara. I think this is “the one.” The wand has a curved shape to it which made it super easy to apply and create a bit of curl. The formula is the perfect blend of thin enough to apply, but thick enough to last. It’s not clumpy, it doesn’t flake or smear. Pretty crazy. I’ll have to save my points for a full size.
Overall, the BuzzFeed Life Happy Holiadys Hack Birchbox had a total value of 26.92, which is pretty normal for Birchbox. I loved the variety of products in this box. I don’t think there’s anything that won’t be used. Except…maybe that sticker. I don’t know.
