You guys, my August Ipsy bag is finally here. I’m pretty sure they use turtles as couriers, it’s the only explanation. The positive? Ipsy did a sneak peek of Glam Rooms this month, so I knew what I was getting long before the bag even shipped out.
Not familiar with Ipsy? Ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription bag. Each month, they send you 5 deluxe samples or full size items of various make-up and beauty products. The cost is 10 dollars a month and the values typically exceed the cost. Their “wait list” is a mile long, but sometimes you can skip it by cluttering your Facebook newsfeed with ads.
Ipsy ships via DHL Global AKA real snail mail. It took 13 days to get from NC to me in MI. That’s just crazy.
First look! At first glance, I honestly couldn’t tell there was even anything in the polka dot bag.
The theme this month is Beauty Schooled. There isn’t always a huge correlation between the items and the bag and the theme, but the theme usually relates to the bag itself. Ipsy doesn’t have a traditional info card, it’s really just a cute card that tells you the theme and reminds you to share your bag with your social media networks. You can find detailed info of your products in your Glam Room on Ipsy’s website.
The bag this month is an orange polka-dot zipper pencil case. It fits perfectly with the theme. While I have very few pencils laying around, I’ll probably use this to store my sharpies in my office. It’s a cute bag and changing the shape actually makes this bag far more useful than the usual monthly bags. I think it’s a tad more spacious.
Paula’s Choice Clear Ultra-light Daily Mattifying Fluid SPF 30: Full Size, 27. Sample Size, 6.75.
I don’t have overly oily skin, so I don’t really need something mattifying, but it’s nice in the summer, when my skin does tend to get a tad oily. The name of this product doesn’t lie, it’s truly a liquid. I was expecting something a tad thicker, so I squeezed a bit too much out the first time around. Oops! Other than the viscosity, the formula is fine. I think I’ll take it to work, we are outside a lot and I almost always forget SPF.
Costal Scents Forever Blush in Fresh and Elegant: Full Size, 16. Sample Size, 3
I’ve been pretty happy with other Costal Scents samples I’ve received, usually through Birchbox. I really like these shades and today I mixed them which gave a really nice, deep color without too much pink. If I didn’t have TheBalm How ‘Bout Them Apples in a full size, which offers similar shades and then some, I’d probably buy this!
Lord & Berry Silk Kajal Kohl Eye Pencil: Full Size, 15. Sample Size, 5.
Surprisingly, I really like this eyeliner. I think my eyes still fare best with a gel liner but if I HAD to use a pencil, this would probably be it. It’s super smooth and nearly glides right over my eyelid. Having hooded eyes also means my eyelids are super soft and most pencils just drag and catch on my eyelid, this one, not so much. Again, my eyes still prefer gels, but it’s a good backup!
Jersey Shore Sun Mongongo Lip Conditioner: Full Size, 5.50
This is my new favorite lip balm! I think I’m going to buy a few more online. The flavor is Orange ginger. It’s organic and free of petroleum, which is an added bonus. The formula isn’t overly thick or greasy AND it offers UV protection!
Urban Decay Perversion Mascara: Full Size, 22. Sample Size, 5.50
It was really hard to take this picture and not laugh. I mean…come on. The name. The tagline. Seriously? Jokes aside, this is a really nice mascara and all out of all of my mascaras, it’s probably second only to Benefit’s They’re Real. I think I prefer this formula, but Benefit’s wand. I might even buy the full size!
Overall, my August Ipsy bag had a total value of 25.75. I found a new favorite lip balm and I like all of the other products as well! Ipsy also offers great coupon codes for all products sampled each month through various brand websites. Usually the discounts are for 25-50% off making it super easy to justify stocking up on your monthly favorites!
